The mission of the Swansboro Sentinel is to provide information that would help residents hold accountable the sitting board members who are entrusted with the mandatory dues and taxes they collect and spend. It’s been said that “Information is power”, but that power is useless unless information is shared. Note that when challenging an opinion posted in the Sentinel, it would benefit the readers to respond to the ISSUES at hand. Below are your opinions. Thank you.

Maybe it is time to have a bylaw that restricts all expenditures of SCPOA funds without the majority vote of all members. This work along with the pretty sagging vinyl fencing and the unused children’s playground are examples of the funds wasted by our Board Members. I was hoping the Management Trust contract would help prevent this kind of waste in the future. How disappointing….

The reason so many have left, including many old timers who contributed so much to the Swansboro community, is because of the horrible talk from both sides. Sheesh, no one wants to live with that, and as it turns out, we no longer have to. You all sound ridiculous.

I am the SCPOA member whose vehicle was towed away from the East end airport parking area. I have regularly commuted back and forth between Swansboro and Reid Hillview airport in San Jose since 2002. My vehicle has been parked in this location for about 10 years for transportation to my home on Stope Dr. This vehicle has always had current registration and current insurance. I absolutely received no notification that my vehicle was about to be towed and I was in San Jose at the time. Purely by chance, I saw an e-mail in my spam folder at 5:00 am the morning of June 17th. The e-mail from Management Trust was in titled “Abandoned Vehicle” and said my vehicle was about to be towed for a construction project This e-mail was dated June 16th. I was airborne at 7:15 am and as I arrived overhead Swansboro just after 8:00 am. it was obvious my vehicle was gone and bulldozers were at work where it was parked. I kindly was offered a ride to Diamond Springs from Kevin to retrieve my vehicle from Extreme Towing (extremely expensive). The bill came to $672.25 and included 1 day storage fee. Had I not accidentally discovered the e-mail when I did, the bill would have quickly exceeded $1000.00 plus with the $75/day storage charge! Just wanted everyone to know what happened to me with no justification and no use of common sense!

I hope you get reimbursed. What happened is not right.

Great information! I’ve heard bits and pieces about the history of Finnon Lake since moving to Swansboro and this is a welcome education of its benefits.

I agree, what she is doing is pathetic, BS and childish. Just the 15 of her cool aid consumers should move already. Then the community would finally be at peace again.

This is such a pathetic, bullshit, childish blog! Just the 15 of you should move already like the last 15 did! Then the community would finally be at peace and it would truly be the happy thriving community once was!

She of all people because she is president (haha) that you do not walk on or beside the run way at any time. She needs to be more focused on the drug deals at Dyer lake and what she is going to do about that I have seen for myself. The closure of the airport is a personal thing not a community thing.

Why don’t you compromise and close the airport for events where 50% of profits go towards airport improvements and 50% goes to offsetting dues and open events to the public. Hire musicians- do something positive instead of just fighting.

Thank you Tom, I have dined there many years, but did not know the history.

I couldn’t make the meeting. Getting the info from someone attending helps a lot. Often the “official minutes” are terse and leave the board dynamics out.. Thank you Tom.

In her “Candidate Statement” for the SCPOA board election, Karen Pullin ended her statement with the following: “There is an effort in our community to move beyond the squabbles that have split us over the years to find new and better ways to work together.”
Clearly, this effort is not led by Mrs. Pullin. As one of her first orders of ‘business’, she has now endeavored to create even more division and squabbles by proposing “closing the airport” on two dates for such things as a yard sale and farmer’s market, in complete disregard of the intended use of the airport, interference with access rights of various members, disregarding rational and reasonable alternative sites that have been used many times in the past, such as Dyer Lake or Trout Lake parking lot areas, and with the real purpose of further dividing the community and pitting members against members and subjecting the association to potential legal action. Numerous concerns have already been expressed, such as the those mentioned above, and including the risk of lack of a landing site for emergency life helicopters in the event of an emergency, or in the event of a fire, for which the airport is intended to be used as a staging area for Cal Fire and for emergency evacuation of residents, which would be an obvious logistical nightmare if such an event occurred while the runway is packed with vehicles, tents, tables, etc, for a yard sale or farmer’s market.
Clearly it’s just the start of misusing the airport for purposes other than it’s intended and historically exclusive use. We shall see if the Board heeds the concerns of various members about such a proposal or ignores those concerns and moves forward with such a plan, at our expense.
