The Annual Community Clean up day, also known as Dumpster Day was a big hit. This event occurs once a year. Two large dumpsters are loaded with community member’s junk by the many volunteers. Kim Purcell, a coordinator for this event, invited community members and spelled out what could be discarded.
“The Swansboro Pilots Association and El Dorado Disposal is hosting a community cleanup day tomorrow at the firehouse from 8:00 AM to 12:00 or until dumpsters are full which usually occurs about noon. Members of the Pilots Group and MVFA will be on site to assist with unloading. We cannot accept appliances, tires, hazardous waste, mattresses or construction material. Bring your CRV cans and plastic for the MVFA recycling program which benefits the Station 75 fund. If you have clean bedding and towels you wish to get rid of please bring them and they will be distribution to various animal rescue groups in our area who will be very appreciative. We’ll also be accepting donations to the Swansboro Pilots scholarship fund for seniors graduating this year…“

Several residents expressed their appreciation as did this one from a post on the local social media blog:
“I went yesterday and was able to get rid of a car full of trash. I would like to thank the people/organization who rented and assured that the dumpsters would be available. I also want to thank the wonderful volunteers. They were so friendly and helpful in unpacking our trash and keeping the cars/trucks going in and out quickly! Thank you for all involved. What a great service you provided our wonderful community!”
