Interest High and Attendance Up at June Fire Board Meeting.

June 28, 2022 Swansboro CA – by Roger Stenbock

I attended the June 23, 2022 Mosquito FPD Station 75 board meeting. Attendance was greater than usual. Among the more interesting topics were: Expenditures, covered by board president James Young, Policy Manual review and revisions, presented by board member Don Stever, review and adoption of the preliminary budget, by board member Megan Holmsky, resolution of of 2022-2024 approval of inflationary adjusted fire impact fees by Chief Jack Rosevear.

The chief also briefly addressed CodeRED. As best as I could tell, it is an emergency notification service provided to all residents within an area, that will notify you of emergency information through phone calls, text messages, emails and social media. The system will be used to keep you informed of local events that may immediately impact your safety. The Chief indicated that Ms. Pullin, president of SCPOA, may have more specific information as to how it will be implemented in our community.

Of specials interest was an update of the new 501c3 fundraising organization presented by director Uggla. As covered in a previous issued paper, the MS75FA/MFA firefighter support association(s) are now defunct see: mfpd-chief-Rosevear report. Director Uggla, who is the go-to source, explained no effort will be made to resurrect the now dissolved MS75FA/MFA association(s). Instead an all new, yet to be named, fundraising organization will be formed with a new name and an elected board later this year. A question as how donations to this new non-profit group can be made to another non-profit was raised from the floor and addressed by the board.

My impression was that the the board worked especially well together. The meeting was informative and interesting. The board members acted respectfully and were well prepared. The need for funding and supporting our fire department was again a high priority. A number of ideas for raising revenue for the fire department were offered by community members attending. Those attending were allowed to speak, ask questions and contribute. For official information please check the minutes at https://mfpd.us/
