RECENT BOARD DECISIONS
This is an update. Attendance was higher than usual at the September 20, 2022 SCPOA board meeting. According to community members who attended this meeting, there were two items of particular interest to the community. Under agenda item 11. New business:
D. Request to Postpone/Table Community Building Project to involve the membership to review the details of the project and conduct a member vote to approve the project.
This request was made, along with item E below, as part of a formal complaint filed by HOA members resulting in an IDR (Internal Dispute Resolution) outcome. According to numerous accounts by members who were present at the last SCPOA meeting, this request was denied. The board majority pointed out that it already made the decision to go ahead with the project without membership approval, and had already made a down-payment on the building (using “excess” SCPOA funds). As far as could be determined this was not a budgeted capital improvement.
E. Request to Postpone/Table Community Building Project until a comprehensive proposal can be obtained.
This request was also denied. Other than a two-page summary of the intended “community building” published on the scpoa.info web site, the board majority rejected to table the “community building” project until the SCPOA membership was provided with a comprehensive proposal. The requested proposal was to include the customary information for a project of the scope, including cost benefit information, building plans, short and long terms expenses, impact on member dues and so forth. In short, a proposal detailed enough to allows members to make an informed decision as to the merits of such a “community building”.
UPCOMING ELECTION
There are four sitting SCPOA board members who are up for election in February, 2023. The preceding matters raised in this edition of the Sentinel are three examples why the current SCPOA board of directors should not be reelected – with the exception of Rob Kirkpatrick. He is the lone member of the current board, who in our opinion, has consistently displayed independence of thought and opinion, and based his decisions on what’s in the best interest of the community.
Stories of interest to our community, based on the SCPOA board record and opinions as to how these board decisions affect the interests of the SCPOA community, have been offered in previous editions of the Sentinel. Approaching the election, in upcoming editions, the Sentinel intends to introduce the membership to SCPOA residents who have a keen interest in our community, who are engaged in volunteer efforts with the fire department and other community organizations, and who regularly attend community meetings and events.
Will these resident members offer a friendlier, more responsive makeup of the SCPOA board? You be the Judge.
