Jan 29-2023 Swansboro California

The Pullin’s and their surrogates: Johnny Valenzuela, Luz Brown, Bryon Hush, candidate Carmen Barney, candidate Wayne Gregson’s wife, and Karen Holley (an SCPOA election official) have all posted inflammatory or inaccurate information regarding the airport. Their posts and statements clearly wish to establish an unwanted and costly picture of the Swansboro Airport. They are demonizing a group to champion against it. KINDA DIVISIVE!
EXAMPLES:
Karen Pullin has alleged that the airport operates without a valid permit. Several years ago I verified with Chris Brooks of Caltrans that the permit is valid as amended and that Karen Pullin had been informed of that the previous day. Melissa Stever notified me that she received written confirmation last week.
Karen Pullin dissolves the airport committee: Jerry Pullin and David Strict filed a form 7480-1 with the FAA containing glaring errors and have not consulted with the pilot, board member Rob Kirkpatrick or any active user. Mr. Strick makes the campaign claim that this solves a 20-year problem with airport compliance.
THEATRICS:
In an attempt to emphasize how dangerous airplanes are Karen Pullin, in an open board meeting, described the gory details of 2 fatal crashes which occurred in the San Diego area several years before. What relevance does a Learjet crash have to do with our landing strip?
Karen Pullin attempted to close the airport with 2 days’ notice over the lack of aircraft user’s insurance verification. Karen Pullin, Luz Brown, and Paul Beacham all voted to shut it down. I pointed out that no notification had been given to the pilots and a subsequent resolution was passed allowing 2 weeks to present documentation. Notice from Management Trust was given a week later and 100% of pilots complied within the remaining week.
Karen Pullin has attempted to close the airport for events ranging from swap meets and evac drills to the Murph Challenge. I suspect one of the problems securing umbrella coverage is because she wants to use an active runway for something other than its intended purpose. Carmen Barney has stated on social media that the runway can be used up to 49% of the time for activities other than its designated special use status and that our legal council told her that. Carmen Barney is a candidate and should not have access to our $400/hr legal counsel.
Jane Gregson, candidate Wayne Gregson’s wife, has posted the false narrative on Nextdoor that the pilots are responsible for convincing the Fire Chief to red-tag the maintenance shed for meetings and are further responsible for the stalled permitting process for the community shed. The stalled process is totally due to the incredibly inept Pullin-dominated board.
Karen has claimed that the umbrella portion of our insurance policy has increased over 5 fold due to airport exposure. A little sleight of hand with the budget documents by Ms. Pullin, failure to acknowledge the separate airport insurance umbrella, and a lack of transparency in the bid proposal for insurance sheds some light on how this could be presented.
Our past insurance policy specifically excluded the airport which allows a lower rate. HOA policies are written using risk factors that the individual companies are comfortable with. Aviation insurance specialists are comfortable with our type of operation and currently provide a 5M umbrella for roughly $2600. If the request included the airport in our umbrella, it goes against established best practices. Was the airport included in the HOA umbrella bid so that events could be held on the runway? Why duplicate coverage?
Sleight of hand: Last year’s budget for the umbrella was $5671. This year’s budget shows $2462 for the umbrella achieved by moving $3209 into a column designated as “insurance”. By decreasing the denominator and plugging in a numerator of unexplained origin a 5-fold increase can be shown. Despicable!
