The annual MVFA Easter Egg Hunt was held on Saturday April 8th at Finnon Lake campground with help from the Mosquito fire fighters.  MVFA volunteers filled about 900 eggs with goodies for the kids.  Over 50 local kids and their families participated in the hunt on a beautiful sunny day.  Our fire fighters handed out stickers and fire hats to the kids, and made the day extra special.

Also at the breakfast event, the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Association (MVFA) Crafters held a gift sale, and as always, the proceeds from their sales benefit the MFPD.  There were 51 paid breakfasts served along with the members of MFPD.  An additional $280 was also received in donations.  The next pancake breakfast will be held Saturday, June 10th.

The Firefighters’ Breakfast was held on Saturday,  April 29th at the fire station.  This was the second breakfast sponsored by the Mosquito District Auxiliary (D’Ax), our newest organization.  In years past, the breakfasts were held regularly by the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD). All the proceeds from this event benefit the Mosquito Fire Protection District (MFPD).  The District Auxiliary (D’Ax) is a non-profit fundraising arm of the MFPD.

D’Ax board meetings are held on the first Monday of the month, 6:30 PM at the fire station, and district residents are invited to attend.  More information can be found on the MFPD website at http://MFPD.us/The Sentinel recognizes the volunteers who make these community events happen: Chief Jack Rosevear, the Mosquito fire fighters, Meredith Blain and the D’Ax board of directors, Cheryl Owen and the MVFA board of directors, Eileen, Natasha, Linnea, Kirk, the Swansboro Pilots’ Association, and Diane Brady the Popcorn Lady!

Sunday, May 7th was the annual MVFA Yard Sale at the fire station. This event and the MVFA Easter Egg Hunt date back to the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD).  MVFA board meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at the fire station, and district residents are invited.

Mothersday Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 14th.  The District Auxiliary (D’Ax) is offering a gift bag filled with Lindt assorted chocolate truffles, a coffee mug with hand-crafted cozie and a hand-made card – all for a donation of $25, and can be purchased at the fire station.  All proceeds go directly to the District Auxiliary in support of MFPD.

In other news, Mosquito fire fighters and MVFA volunteers completed the restoration of the Mosquito fire station second floor bathroom.  MVFA donated the materials and supplies to the much needed upgrade.  In addition, MVFA provided funding for the purchase of a new tool storage cabinet, an extensive set of new tools and a new welder for the fire station.  The tools and welder will allow station personnel to repair and maintain fire department vehicles and equipment.  It was purchased and donated by MVFA at a cost of $5,940.
