The Firefighters’ Breakfast was held on Saturday, June 10th at the fire station.  This was the third breakfast sponsored by our new fundraiser organization, the Mosquito District Auxiliary (D’Ax).  All the proceeds from this event benefit the Mosquito Fire Protection District (MFPD).  The District Auxiliary is a non-profit fundraising entity of the MFPD.  More information can be found on the MFPD website at http://MFPD.us/

Attendance this month was much greater than the previous breakfast in April.

Attendance this month was much greater than the previous breakfast in April.  The first was in January, when D’Ax revived the Firefighter’s Breakfast event.  In the past, this event was held monthly by the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD), and it is gaining popular support again.  The breakfasts are another opportunity for residents to visit with old friends, and perhaps make new ones.

The MFPD District Auxiliary (D’Ax) is a local organization dedicated to supporting the Mosquito Fire Department, and its number of volunteers is growing.  D’Ax Vice President Dee Harris organized this month’s event and reported having plenty of help.  Chief Jack Rosevear and his Fire Fighters, Diane Brady, Trent and Mary Williams, Karen and Clay Paul, Ron & Devon Beesley, Scott Reiman and his daughter Madeleine, Melissa Stever, David Dudley, Karen Jensen, Bob Byerwalter, Peggy Paradise, Sharlyn Fields, Natasha Cutter, Eileen Reisner, and Kirk Bronsord.

Also at the breakfast event, the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Association (MVFA) Crafters held a gift sale, and as always, the proceeds from their sales benefitted the MFPD.  There were 76 paid breakfasts served along with the members of MFPD.  Kids under 16 were free.  An additional $45 was also received in donations.  The next pancake breakfast will be held 9 to 11 AM, Saturday, July 22nd.

Fathers day gifts shown ready for dad

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 18th.  The District Auxiliary (D’Ax) is offering a gift bag filled with a box of Lindt assorted chocolate truffles, a  hand-crafted can cozie and a hand-made card in a decorated gift bag – all for a donation of $25, and can be purchased at the fire station.  All proceeds go directly to the District Auxiliary in support of MFPD. Happy Father’s day to all our Dads out there.

The Sentinel salutes all the volunteers who make our community events happen.  The Mosquito Fire Protection District (MFPD) and its District Auxiliary (D’Ax) offers residents a chance to volunteer and give back to their community.  Please take time to be involved and stay informed.  Mosquito Fire District board of directors’ meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of the month, 7:00 PM at the station.

MVFA works closely with the Mosquito Fire Department and always has.  For a historical perspective on these two groups go to http://www.gomvfa.org.  Click “More”, then click “History”.  Much of the information in this issue of the Sentinel was provided by the MVFA Newsletter, the Mosquito Byte, which can be obtained online every month at http://www.gomvfa.org.  A hard-copy subscription can be obtained for $15 per year.  Mail your address and check payable to MVFA, 9009 Orval Beckett Ct., Placerville CA 95667. Thank you for supporting our local organizations.

  1. Tom, I think you give D’Ax a little too much credit! The breakfast is a firefighter event, supported by D’Ax. This month, however, the firefighters had required training to prepare for fire season so our outstanding community volunteers and D’Ax stepped up to make the event a success! It is likely, if or when our volunteer firefighters are deployed this fire season, the community volunteers and D’Ax will do what is needed to keep the breakfasts on the calendar!

And a big “Hats Off “ to Dee for her creative art, making all of the gift bags! Donated time and many of the materials, thank you Dee!
