Perspective and Opinion by Tom Harris, Associate Editor
The purpose of this article is to publicly inform all residents of the Mosquito Fire Protection District (MFPD) of matters of interest to our community.
The Sentinel attended the October 26th board meeting along with 15 district residents. Notably, neither a representative of the Mosquito Firesafe Council (MFSC) nor its associate, Mr. Johnny Valenzuela, attended. Routine agenda items were covered, but the item that drew the attention of the board members and residents was agenda Issue Item 7.2: Official Complaint to El Dorado Fire Safe Council – Review and Disposition
This complaint was summarized in a letter from MFPD Chief Jack Rosevear to El Dorado Fire Safe Council (EDCFSC) Chairman Chief Ken Pimlott and the EDCFSC Board of Directors. Essentially it alleges defamation, tortious interference with, and the usurpation of the MFPD’s authority and mission. The letter is printed in its entirety below. According to our sources, further official action from the MFPD will follow.

Chairman Pimlott’s response as well as extensive background information and a timeline regarding this issue is included in the October 26th board packet which can be found on the MFPD website at: https://www.mfpd.us/files/c1ad053a1/MFPD+Board+Packet+2023+Oct+26+2023+Final.pdf beginning on page 18.

Over the years, our community has been subjected to a small but vocal group of, let’s call them “grievance collectors”. Harboring anger and ill will toward one’s neighbors is bad enough, but expressing anger and ill will on social media toward public servants like the fire chief and community volunteers borders on psychosis. Ironically, much of the anger is based on rumor, innuendo, and false assumptions.
In the Sentinel’s opinion, Chief Jack Rosevear does an excellent job operating and maintaining the Mosquito Fire Protection District Station 75. And thanks to a cooperative Board of Directors under chairman Don Stever, is moving the district forward in a fiscally responsible manner. The Board of Director’s meetings are open to the public and you are invited to attend. The next board meeting is November 16th, 7PM at the fire station.

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him.
