On Saturday, May 10th 2025, MFPD D’Ax held its first major fundraiser event: “The Mosquito Fire Raise the Roof Fundraiser”. Proceeds from this event will pay for a new roof for the Mosquito fire station. The Sentinel was in attendance, along with about seventy donors and supporters of our Mosquito Fire Department. Diane Wilkinson catered this event, and the food was fantastic: tri-tip and chicken, all the trimmings and cheesecake desserts.
A local group called The Agonal Rhythm Band with Miranda Stever on vocals, provided live music after dinner, and a dance floor was cleared to provide participants with room to expend their energy in a full party atmosphere.
Donations to date for the roof, according to D’Ax treasurer Melissa Stever: $27,515.50. This includes $4863.50 from the silent auction which consisted of donated items provided by members of the Mosquito community. All donations for the roof are kept in a separate bank account, distinct from D’Ax’s general account. Donations continue to come in, and tax deductible donations can be made at: paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/5109067.
D’Ax is working with the MFPD Capital Improvement Committee seeking quotes from local contractors to provide for the roof replacement. D’Ax is prepared to conduct a phone campaign to raise additional funds for the roof. D’Ax is the first volunteer fundraising organization of our Fire District. Their goal is to fully fund this project.
D’Ax has participated in other local organization’s events, taking donations at the MVFA Harvest Festival, and at the Firefighters’ Pancake Breakfasts. The Sentinel is impressed by the dedication and hard work that went into this event, by the board members, and by community volunteers.
District Auxiliary board meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month just prior to the MFPD board meetings at the Mosquito fire station and are open to members of the district. The D’Ax Board of Directors has five members. They are: Meredith Blain, President; Karen Jensen, Vice President; Melissa Stever, Treasurer;
Devon Beesley, Secretary; Elisabeth Bingham, Director.
D’Ax was incorporated as a California non-profit on September 26, 2022. It has been dedicated to supporting the Mosquito Fire Protection District and the safety and betterment of our community since that time.
Mission Statement:
The primary mission of the District Auxiliary is to raise funds to sustain the Mosquito Fire Protection District (MFPD). D’Ax encourages volunteerism that supports MFPD and will purchase, manage and maintain MFPD’s fundraising assets.
