The Sentinel was in attendance at the MVFA Fall Festival at Finnon Lake where the weather was perfect – low ’70s and sunny – and the atmosphere was festive.  The event featured over 40 local vendors, and offered a free lunch of pulled pork sandwiches, chips and soft drinks.  The Sentinel estimated between 200 and 250 total in attendance.  Local musician Alan Thompson and his Sierra Sound Box provided live music all day.

The Fall Festival is an annual event originated and sponsored by the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Association (MVFA).  This event promotes friendship and good will among neighbors in the Swansboro/Mosquito community, and offers continuing support of and cooperation with the Mosquito Fire Protection District (MFPD).

Among other events sponsored by MVFA throughout the year are the Community Yard Sale at the fire station, the Spaghetti dinner, Trunk ‘R Treat at Halloween, the Christmas Craft Sale and the free Christmas Dinner.  Check the event schedule in the Mosquito Byte for dates and times.

The Fall Festival is an event sponsored by the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Association (MVFA).

The Mosquito Byte is the official organ of the MVFA and is published monthly with timely information including a calendar of events as well as information provided by the fire department and numerous other groups in our community.  The Mosquito Byte is mailed first class to subscribers for $15 per year.  To subscribe, mail your check payable to MVFA, 9009 Orval Beckett Ct, Placerville CA 95667.  It is also posted on www.goMVFA.org every month.

MVFA was formerly the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD), which was established in 1972, and reorganized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit as MVFA in October, 2007.  MVFA is funded entirely by donations, grants, fundraisers and rents and fees at Finnon Lake Recreation Area, which it owns. MVFA receives no tax revenue, nor any dues money from SCPOA.  As per IRS mandate, MVFA gives no cash nor has any financial connection to any non-501(c)(3) nor to the Mosquito Fire Protection District.

MVFA values and promotes voluntary efforts in our community.  MVFA continues to carry on the work begun by its predecessors many years ago. MVFA board meetings are presently held on the third Thursday of each month at the Diner.  Stop by and meet the board members, all of whom are your neighbors.

MVFA operates primarily with volunteers who donate their own time and often their own money to make our community a better place.  Donations may be tax-deductible, and a letter stating your donation will be provided on request.
