Even a steady drizzle and chilly breeze couldn’t scare off the Halloween spirit at this year’s Trunk ’R Treat held at the Mosquito Fire Station. The event drew more than ten creative “Trunkers,” each with cars and trucks decked out in Halloween lights, cobwebs, and pumpkins—and, of course, buckets of candy for the kids.

Despite the weather, spirits were high. Dozens of families came out, and one volunteer estimated more than fifty trick-or-treaters based on how quickly the candy bags emptied. “It’s such a fun way to bring everyone together,” said one parent. “Rain or shine, the kids wouldn’t miss it.”

The annual Trunk ’R Treat is hosted by the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Association (MVFA), with support from the Mosquito Fire Protection District (MFPD). The event is part of MVFA’s ongoing effort to promote friendship and goodwill among neighbors in the Swansboro/Mosquito community.

In addition to Trunk ’R Treat, the MVFA sponsors several other hallmark events throughout the year—the Community Yard Sale, Spaghetti Dinner, Fall Festival, Christmas Craft Sale, and the beloved free Christmas Dinner. Dates and times for these and other community activities can be found each month in the Mosquito Byte.

The Mosquito Byte serves as the official publication of the MVFA, providing timely updates, event listings, and information from the Fire Department and local groups. Subscriptions are available for $15 per year, mailed first-class to your home. Checks may be sent to MVFA, 9009 Orval Beckett Ct, Placerville, CA 95667. You can also read each issue online at www.goMVFA.org.

The MVFA, formerly known as the Mosquito Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD), reorganized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2007. Today it continues the proud legacy of volunteerism and neighborly spirit that has long defined this community. The MVFA Board of Directors meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Diner, and all community members are welcome to stop by, say hello, and see how they can get involved.

MVFA is powered by volunteers—people who give their time, energy, and often their own funds to make our community stronger. Whether it’s helping at Finnon Lake, lending a hand at the fire station, or organizing events like Trunk ’R Treat, every contribution makes a difference. Donations to MVFA may be tax-deductible, and acknowledgment letters are available upon request. For more information or to volunteer, visit www.goMVFA.org. Rain or not, this year’s Trunk ’R Treat proved once again that a little community spirit—and a lot of candy—can light up even the darkest Halloween night.
