The MVFA Board of Directors, MVFA Crafters and the Mosquito Byte staff were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of long-time Mosquito resident Dick Rood. Dick was a huge asset to our community.
He served on the MFPD Board of Directors for a number of years and was a volunteer who, with his bulldozer and John Deere tractor, donated countless hours of his time working to restore the dam and Finnon Lake Recreation Area. Dick worked to clear the lake shore of overgrowth up to the water level of a full lake. He and others built the swimming area and filled and graded the beach area with sand.
Dick assisted with MVFA fund drives – to improve the café building and fire station, and to purchase equipment for the fire department – like the infrared camera. Dick would always help whenever asked. Dick owned and operated an H-VAC company in Santa Clara CA, and donated his expertise to improve the ventilation system at the diner (now Smoke on the Water). During the tough times for MVFA during the dam restoration, Dick and wife Darlene were always there to support MVFA at dinners and events, bringing smiles and friendship to everyone. He will be sorely missed. Godspeed, my friend.
